- The leading causes of fatal auto collisions were speeding and driving too fast for conditions;

- Of the people killed in motor vehicle crashes, approximately 42% were in the 16-35 age group;
- Only about 6% of all Missouri motor vehicle accidents occurred during bad weather. Bad weather includes rain, snow, sleet, freezing rain, fog or mist;
- A large portion of car accidents occurred during the day and on dry pavement; and
- Many deadly accidents involved one vehicle.

- In 2005 there were 4,747 fatal and not-fatal large truck and tractor trailer accidents in Missouri;
- Approximately 170 people died in large truck and big rig collisions;
- About 2,174 of the crashes resulted in personal injuries;
- In all of the 18 wheeler crashes and truck accidents, 3,298 people were injured and approximately 166 people were killed. The majority of the wrecks and collisions occurred on interstates and highways.
